Diagnostic Instruments, Inc. a high quality manufacturer of microscope
accessories, has designed & developed an extremely easy to use cooled CCD
color digital camera for used with light microscopes. The "SPOT RT"
(Real Time) Cameras use dual mode circuitry to combine "video" like
operation with high resolution image capture in one camera. Your imaging
environment now moves to a higher level of interactivity and productivity.

The original Spot camera has a fixed, built in color filter and serves as an
excellent system for digital photomicrography delivering spectacular color
images. The "Spot-2" camera incorporates all the features of the
Spot camera but has a removable color filter, and the "Spot Jr."
which has a smaller resolution CCD.
The "Spot" version supplied with a Kodak KAF-1400 CCD, provides a
dual purpose 24 or 36 bit color/8 or 12 bit monochrome system at a price
lower than most other cameras that only provide 12 bit monochrome
acquisition. This camera uses 3-shot digital technology to derive true,
non-interpolated red, green and blue values to the CCD. This results in
crisp, vivid, high resolution images, addressing a variety of microscope
imaging needs.
The "Spot-2" version has a slide mechanism which allows the user to
easily remove both the color filter and the IR filter from the system. This
dramatically increases the sensitivity of the system resulting in much
shorter exposure time. It also allows longer wavelengths of light to reach
the CCD for specialized fluorescence techniques (such as emissions from Cy5,
Cy7 fluorescence).
The "Spot Jr." incorporates all of the features of the original
Spot camera but with a smaller resolution CCD. The software includes image
acquisition, image editing, database archival, and a basic measurement
module. A new software feature called "Imaging Doubling" creates a
spectacular 1532 x 1020 resolution image by doubling the original 766 x 510
pixel array. Because the Spot Jr. still uses 3-shot digital technology in
which the red, green, and blue acquisition is taken separately, the resulting
resolution is higher than many other digital cameras that take
"1-shot".
